As soon as I can tell a post is written by ChatGPT, I stop reading.
Every day, more and more generic, AI-generated content gets dumped on social media platforms.
The barrier to entry has never been lower, leading more people to take a shot at becoming creators.
At first this frustrated me, but then I realized — if you're a creator with integrity — this gives you a massive opportunity to stand out.
Here's the approach I'm taking to ensure I remain the signal — in an ocean of noise.
I Was Using ChatGPT for Too Much
It happened fast.
Before I knew it, ChatGPT had become my business advisor, therapist, copywriter, and soundboard for every idea.
Maybe you can relate.
After seeing viral videos about ChatGPT destroying our hippocampus, my wife challenged me to write my next newsletter unassisted.
I didn't think I needed AI to help me write, but lately, I'd been relying on it a lot for structure and editing.
I'm on social media every day now, and most writing looks and sounds eerily the same — since it's obviously written by ChatGPT.
It made me realize my writing was beginning to lose something: my voice.
And I needed to reclaim it.
AI is the Future of Technology
Let's clear something up first:
AI tools are the future, regardless of what you or I think about them.
They help us do more, faster, with less effort.
Humans will take that deal a thousand times out of a thousand.
So, it's not going anywhere — it will just continue to evolve.
And I'm not anti-AI.
I will continue to use it.
Just less in my writing.
Why? Because I want my subscribers to know when they read my content, it's coming straight from my brain to theirs.
Why I Create Content
I started creating with the hope of building my own content-driven business.
I wanted to give my followers and students the tools and confidence to follow.
I wanted them to feel empowered and rediscover themselves in the process.
I'm not sure that's achievable using AI for everything.
As someone who always tries to lead by example, I had to get honest with myself about how much of me was in my writing, and how much of it was me standing on the shoulders of AI, feeling tall.
I didn't like that I even had to ask this question. So, I decided to make a change.
Fear of Reaching For Something More
It feels hypocritical, but it's disheartening to see so many creators watering themselves down with AI mush.
A lot of creators — even big accounts — are simply recycling information, mindlessly parroting ideas that they think will position them as an authority.
How can you expect to stand out, if you're relying on the same tool as every other creator?
How can you hope to build an engaged audience, if they can tell you're not fully invested in your own content?
Who I Work With
I help people build purpose-driven businesses that align with who they are.
And that takes a great deal of reflection, as well as guts, to express yourself publicly.
These creators and business owners are creative and intelligent.
If they let ChatGPT, Claude, or whatever AI tool comes next, speak for them, I think it'd be a disservice to them and their audience.
As creators, we have the opportunity to show up fully as ourselves and connect with people all over the world.
We just need to give ourselves permission.

Get honest with yourself.
Look, we can't expect different results doing what everyone else is.
We're done with that.
